Story 1

Tim Morley, founder of Morley Yachts, started his career in the exhibition organising business, organising a travel trade show in Moscow (MITT) in the 1990s. He then spent three years working as crew on the motor yacht LEANDER, owned by Sir Donald Gosling (1997 – 2000).

Story 2

Coming ashore in 2000, Tim worked for two well established yacht brokerage firms before establishing Morley Yachts in 2005, initially in the area of the port of Antibes.

Story 3

Story 3

Morley Yachts has maintained a philosophy of ‘getting the basics right’, being professional and representing the best interests of our clients.

Story 4

Story 4

Since the beginning, we have focused on the sale and the charter of large yachts and the sale of marina berth leaseholds in the Mediterranean.

Story 5

Story 5

Morley Yachts is equally adept at charter and sales of both sailing yachts and motor yachts. Here are just a few examples of yachts we have arranged charters on (the tally is now well over 100 large yacht charters).

Story 6

Story 6

Morley Yachts knows that the newest and most modern yachts do not necessarily translate to the best choice. Comfort at sea is about more than fabrics and interior design. Stability and build-quality are important and the yachts that have the most style and real comfort are not necessarily the ones you might expect from an initial scan of the ‘profile pictures’.

Story 7

Story 7

We also understand that the crew are in many ways more important than the yacht itself. The Morley Yachts team spent a great deal of time over the years meeting the crew. We try to get to know them to help give clients the best experiences and we help the crew when we can.

Story 8

Story 8

We travel great distances, at our own expense, to inspect yachts for our clients. On one occasion Tim even went as far as Bora Bora to inspect a yacht and then flew to Hawaii to present his findings to the client. We literally travel the world to find yachts and meet clients face to face, with frequent trips all over Europe, the US, Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

Story 9

Story 9

Morley Yachts has never been afraid to respond to opportunities as they arise and “think outside the box”. The most notable examples of this were the opening of an office in Tunisia in 2009 and the creation of Morley Group and Morley Asset Management for the purpose of marketing Marina Bizerte and management of a marina in Djerba. Morley Yachts had an office in Sidi Bou Said, in the picturesque village adjacent to Carthage.

Story 10

Tim Morley’s wife, Nathalie, was one of the founders of Fashion TV. We arranged charters for them and managed their F DIAMOND party ship for charter. An original looking vessel that could host 1,000 people for a party and did just that. The ship cruised the Mediterranean and as far as Thailand and Hong Kong.

Story 11

In 2011 Morley Yachts opened its new head office in Monaco. For three years we had a shop window on the prestigious boulevard Des Moulins in Monte-Carlo.

Story 12

Story 12

Morley Yachts organised probably the largest and most notable auction of yachts, large and small, in 2013. No less than 36 yachts were in the catalogue, including the historic Steam Ship DELPHINE and the iconic 77m LONE RANGER (sold at the auction). Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr was the auctioneer and the event was televised and broadcast live, with it’s bidding floor in Antibes, and a phone link to private bidding room in Monaco. Organisation of such an auction had never been seen before and has never been seen since.

Story 13

Story 13

David Jakabovic joined the company in 2014 and has become an extremely effective broker. His approach has always been to understand the needs of his clients fully to enable him to provide the advice on which yachts to charter or buy. The success of this strategy is evident, as he has been one of the most successful young brokers in the yachting industry, building his reputation for professionalism, discretion and delivering amazing experiences to his clients.

Story 14

Story 14

Morley Yachts was equally determined to submit a bid when the town of Antibes launched an invitation to tender for the management of Port Vauban and its iconic IYCA or ‘Quai des Milliardaires’ and adjacent shipyard. The challenge was enormous with a very complex project requiring the digestion of huge amounts of documentation, political understanding, local business comprehension and yachting industry knowledge. Putting together the bid required imagination as to the optimum way to redesign the port for the future; business planning; legal and accounting work; partnership with experts in the field of marina management; and production of a compelling bid document in French. Whilst the bid was not successful in winning the 25 year contract to manage the port, the future of the port of Antibes is still something that Morley Yacht takes interest in, making us able to assist clients with our unique expertise on the subject.

Story 15

Story 15

In 2014 we developed a philosophy that is unique when it comes to New Construction projects, whereby we charge a monthly retainer rather than a commission. This way of doing business is hugely beneficial to the clients, compared to the traditional model whereby yacht brokers are paid a commission by the shipyards. Where yachts in excess of 100m in length may cost hundreds of millions of Euros, a percentage commission becomes absurd (in our opinion) and a fair day’s pay for what we do is far more logical. Morley Yachts was the broker for the project to build a 120m yacht in Germany and the client appreciated that there was no conflict of interest – by virtue of our agreed business model – he knew we represented his best interests and not those of the chosen shipyard or any of the contractors. We, as brokers, knew that we had to deliver value every month during the project and not just until the contract was signed.

Story 16

Story 16

Despite this pioneering and innovation, Morley Yachts remains firmly committed to its core business of Charter and Sales of yachts. We have brokered some of the most important deals in the last 10 years, including some of the largest charters and some of the larger yachts sold, such as GLOBAL.

Story 17

Story 17

Morley Yachts is now the Central Agent for the charter of two of the world’s finest yachts. CHRISTINA O and ANNA I are both marketed for charter by us and we are proud to have been involved in the development of their branding and marketing communication. Both are extremely special and both conform to our core belief that the best yachts are those that provide the clients with really outstanding charter experiences.

Story 18

Story 18

CHRISTINA O was successful in getting a Greek charter license in 2018, which makes her very attractive for charters in the country from which Aristotle Onassis originated and her days of playing host to glamour and pioneering business people.

Story 19

Story 19

Morley Yachts continues to organise event charters every year, including cruise ship charters for TAG Heuer at the Monaco Grand Prix, a project where we undertake the role of event planning and execution as well as the brokerage of the vessel charter.

Story 20

Story 20

Organising charters in unique parts of the world is something we do more and more. As well as charters in the Caribbean, Bahamas and Mediterranean, we have arranged charters in Thailand, Myanmar, the Maldives, Cuba, and now the incredible destination of Antarctica. While we haven’t yet booked a charter in Papua (Raj Ampat), we actively promote this as a destination now, as well as Costa Rica. Yachts are built for exploring so we encourage it.
